Learning & development: a New Reality

Realignment of Learning & Development Strategy and Priorities

Company:  Large Multinational Corporation

Goal:  Realign Learning & Development functional strategy and priorities in response to shifts in company strategy and external pressures 

Process:

  • Identify corporate strategy shifts and external pressures affecting need for functional change
  • Poll senior L&D leaders to elicit their views on
    • what’s working, what’s not;
    • what they want to deliver as a function in the next 3-5 years, and how;
    • what will need to be done differently to achieve that vision.
  • Synthesize inputs to identify themes
  • Present themes to senior leadership team for validation, discussion, agreement, prioritization
  • Propose revised strategy and specific next steps, with designated owners, to accomplish agreed-upon actions

Deliverables:

  • Senior Staff Presentation outlining issues, context, synthesized inputs, agreements, recommendations
  • Support for designated action owners to develop and implement action plans  
  • Revised functional strategy and priorities, documented and agreed to by functional leadership team

Results:

  • Clear functional strategy and action plans for accomplishment
  • Framework for decisions regarding use of resources
  • Improved L&D functional efficiency and effectiveness
  • improved perception among executives and line managers of functional support
