Retention Analysis and Development of Career Management Program 

Company:   Public US-based company of 4,000 employees, with global locations

Goals: 

  • Create work environment with transparent career opportunities that are valued by employees
  • Help company show a return on its employee development investment
  • Reduce risk of avoidable employee departures that could potentially disrupt service delivery and reduce productivity 

Process:

  • Analyze turnover statistics and determine percent of departures compared to industry
  • Identify reasons for departures (voluntary vs. involuntary, avoidable vs. nonavoidable)
  • Identify highly valued employees and assess their departure risk; develop a customized intervention
  • Develop tools for employees and managers to discuss career goals and progression
  • Implement communication program to create awareness of actions to retain high performers

Deliverables:

  • A managers' communication calendar describing key reasons the company is a great place to work
  • Webinars designed to give employees clarity about promotion criteria, how pay decisions are made, the value of company-provided benefits, and rewards and recognition programs
  • Designated Career Management resource area on intranet:
  • Manager-Employee Discussion Guide to facilitate conversations regarding growth and development:

Results:

  • Increase in “above and beyond” employee recognition
